Palma gives free bus, train and Metro rides on 22 September

Palma will make travel free on EMT buses, trains and the Metro on Tuesday 22 September, bringing its European Mobility Week to a close. Before then, new EMT and TIB buses will go on display during the city’s main mobility event on Saturday 19 September. The programme runs from 16 to 22 September, although technical talks begin on Tuesday 15 September.

The first debate session takes place at the Aljub of Es Baluard Museu from 17.30 to 20.00. Further sessions examine the Sustainable Mobility Law, intergenerational travel and the mobility needs of older people.

New buses and a look inside rail control

Saturday’s Mobility Day runs from about 10.00 to 14.30 across Plaça del Mercat, Carrer Unió and Plaça del Rei Joan Carles I. Alongside the new buses, the programme includes a Local Police road-safety circuit, Emaya environmental workshops, blood donations and activities from ONCE.

At Palma Intermodal Station, Amics del Ferrocarril will run a small train, known locally as a trenet. SFM will also have information stands and open its train and Metro control centre to visitors. Free visits leave every 45 minutes between 09.30 and 14.00, but booking is required.

Bikes, accessibility and the free-travel finale

On Thursday, BiciPalma will hold a bicycle-maintenance workshop at Plaça Madrid. That evening, the Font de Misteris historical night walk sets off from Plaça del Rei Joan Carles I at 20.00, on a route suitable for people with reduced mobility.

A cycle ride leaves Plaça del Rei Joan Carles I at 10.30 on Sunday 20 September. Accessibility workshops follow on Monday in Carrer Manacor, beside bus stop 406, while Plaça d’Espanya hosts awards for loyal users of BiciPalma, EMT and the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca.

The final day also includes a health route from the centre of Parc de les Estacions to Plaça Major, from 10.00 to 11.30. At 14.15, the Volta a Mallorca amb Tren departs from Palma Intermodal Station, travelling via Parc Bit, Manacor, Inca and Sa Pobla before returning to Palma.
