In Palma, Mallorca, Palma Futsal chief José Tirado says depression left him feeling he could go no further: speaking on Tuesday, 6 October, he urges people to seek professional help. Shame and fear can stop people asking for it, he says, but psychiatrists and psychologists can help them through depression.

Tirado was speaking at the second Sana-ment talk, organised by Illes Balears Palma Futsal and the Consell de Mallorca (Mallorca Island Council). Council president Llorenç Galmés said one in four people in the Balearic Islands would experience a mental health disorder. Pedro Bestard, the island councillor responsible for sport, said 33,000 people a year receive care for depression at primary care centres across the islands.

The talk also brought psychiatrist Inés Angélico of Son Espases University Hospital and Paralympic athlete Álex Sánchez Palomero into a public discussion about sport and emotional wellbeing. Bestard said the council backs programmes that prescribe sport and provide services for different groups of patients.
