Palma housing row: PP and Vox fight over measures
Palma’s housing measures are at the heart of a fresh PP-Vox row, with both parties claiming credit during Tuesday’s parliamentary sitting on 22 September. Vox MP Patricia de las Heras says her party forced the few useful advances, while Housing, Territory and Mobility Minister José Luis Mateo says they were already in the PP’s election programme. Mateo calls the government’s record so far “positive but cautious”.
“Your signature, our text,” de las Heras told the plenary during questions to the government. Vox claims credit for exempting young people buying their first home from property transfer tax, ending inheritance tax, releasing land for building and providing homes for police officers, health workers and teachers.
The party also says its proposals or demands led to action against the occupation of properties. De las Heras said Vox would have solved the crisis rather than merely managed it.
Mateo rejects the claim that the measures belong to Vox. He says Marga Prohens’ government has launched programmes to tackle the housing emergency, including its emergency plan and residency requirements.
