Mallorca: Palma marathon closes Ma-19 and seafront

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Palma, Mallorca, faces road closures on two days: a parade blocks central streets on Saturday, then Sunday’s TUI Palma Marathon Mallorca closes part of the Ma-19 and the seafront. Buses run on changed routes on both days, and two services stop altogether on Sunday. Palma City Council has set out the restrictions.

Saturday: parade closes central streets

From 15.00 to 22.00, traffic cannot use Via Roma by Avenidas, the descent from Paseo Mallorca to Avenida Jaume III, or Paseo del Born from Plaza de la Reina. The Beata carriage parade starts at Plaza del Hospital and ends in Calle de Santa Magdalena.

During those hours, Palma’s Municipal Transport Company (EMT) diverts bus routes 3, 4, 7 and 20 in both directions. Routes 25 and 35 also change course, and several stops are cancelled.

Sunday: marathon reaches the seafront

The inland side of the Ma-19 closes between Costa de Gas and Antoni Maura from 01.00 to 17.00. From 06.30, Paseo Marítimo closes in both directions between Avenida Argentina and Costa de Gas. The stretch from the Porto Pi roundabout to Avenida Argentina closes from 07.30 to 13.00, though the ferry terminals remain accessible from the roundabout.

Sunday’s bus diversions affect routes 3, 4, 7, 18, 20, 25 and 35. Routes 1 and 30 stop running from 06.00 to 16.00. Marathon runners and volunteers can use EMT buses free from 06.00 to 17.00 by showing a race number or volunteer pass; A1 and A2 are excluded.

At the Parc de la Mar car park, the Ma-19 entrance and exit close from 01.00 to 16.00. Drivers can generally leave via Antoni Maura towards Paseo Sagrera, but not between 08.00 and 09.00.

Antoni Maura and central streets reopen at 14.00. Paseo Marítimo reopens towards the airport at 14.30 and in both directions from 17.00.
