A moped burns out beneath its owner’s home in Palma, Mallorca: police arrest his former partner on suspicion of setting it alight in the early hours of 3 September. A neighbour spotted the fire and alerted the owner. The two tried to put it out, but could not save the moped.

The owner told police he found a red fuel container burning between two vehicles beside the moped. Spain’s National Police say investigators then found that a grey car had parked nearby shortly before the fire and driven away hurriedly just after it began.

The man’s former partner drove a car of the same make, model and colour, police say. Officers established that she had filled a container at a petrol station near his home before driving to the street where the moped was parked. They allege she poured petrol over the moped, set it alight and left. Police arrested her on suspicion of criminal damage by fire.
