Palma ORA parking: €24 permits open Wednesday
Residents in Palma, Mallorca, can apply from Wednesday for a virtual parking permit costing €24 a year in streets newly added to the ORA regulated-parking scheme. The expanded scheme is expected to begin on 1 January 2027. Number plates will be checked automatically, so there is no sticker to put on the vehicle.
The new streets are in Foners, eastern Pere Garau, southern Son Fortesa, Els Hostalets, Son Oliva, Plaça de Toros, Camp Redó and parts of Bons Aires. Not every street in those neighbourhoods is included, and Palma City Council says people should check their address before applying.
The expansion follows requests from residents, according to Mobility Councillor Toni Deudero. The council says it is intended to free up spaces through vehicle turnover and make parking more available for residents, businesses, errands and visits.
How the permit application works
Applicants must have a valid ID card, NIE or passport, plus the vehicle registration document and a valid driving licence. They must also be registered at an address in the relevant zone and up to date with municipal taxes.
Applications can be made at mobipalma.mobi or at offices of the Municipal Parking and Mobility Company, SMAP, with an appointment. The fee can be paid by bank card or through a city council payment charge.
SMAP has begun an exceptional recruitment process to deal with the expected demand. It can add up to 20 extra staff if needed while applications are being processed.
Existing permit holders stay on the usual route
People who already hold a resident permit in an existing ORA sector do not need to apply again. Their permits will be renewed through the normal process, although some sector numbers will change as the zones are reorganised.
Drivers who do not live on the streets joining the new ORA areas must use the standard regulated-parking system there, through the mobiAPParc app or ticket machines.
The council is launching an information campaign with leaflets, street advertising, material at ticket machines and information points in businesses in the affected areas. It will also provide information through SMAP channels and customer-service offices.
