Mallorca: 1,200 parking spaces vanish in Palma
Palma’s Paseo Marítimo has lost 1,200 parking spaces, putting pressure on businesses, people without parking in their buildings and those using the waterfront. On 15 September 2026, the Paseo Marítimo Traders and Industrialists Association met Palma City Council and the Balearic Islands Port Authority to press for action. The group says the loss also adds to daily problems for customers, suppliers, workers, boat users and boat owners.
The association, backed by the Confederation of Balearic Business Associations, says the issue reaches far beyond shops and industry along the promenade. It had waited seven months for the meeting, yet no final solution was agreed.
Palma’s planning councillor, Óscar Fidalgo, attended alongside Balearic Islands Port Authority director Toni Ginard and Víctor Darder. The association welcomed their willingness to talk, but said it would have preferred Palma mayor Jaime Martínez and Port Authority president Javier Sanz to be there.
Those at the meeting agreed to keep looking at possible sites for the much-needed parking spaces. The association now wants those studies carried out quickly.
