Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca’s Son Ferriol municipal swimming pool in Palma has rust on its roof panels and apparent damage around the fixings, according to SOM Sindicalistes. The union is demanding an immediate inspection of the entire roof on 30 October 2026. People of different ages use the pool daily, and staff work there.

The union says it has seen large stains, rust deposits and visible wear on the panels. It says some areas around the fixings appear damaged or loose. The pool is heated, with high humidity and condensation. SOM Sindicalistes wants qualified specialists to find out what caused the damage, how far it extends and whether any parts could come loose or the structure could be affected.

The union wants preventive measures now. If the inspection finds a risk, it says the affected areas should be cordoned off or closed temporarily until they are safe. It also wants a report setting out the defects, the work needed and repair deadlines, with the findings shared with workers’ representatives.

SOM Sindicalistes is calling for repairs and a preventive maintenance plan. It wants the Institut Municipal de l’Esport, Palma’s municipal sports body, and the company running the pool to act without delay.
