Mallorca: Palma rally calls for ports free of arms
Palma, Mallorca: A pro-Palestinian rally is set for Plaza de España at 18.00 on Friday, calling for ports to play no part in supplying arms or supporting war logistics. Global Sumud Movement de Baleares and Mallorca per Palestina have called the gathering, with backing from the Acampada por la Vivienda group in Palma.
The rally coincides with an international day of action by dockworkers against war, militarisation and what the organisers describe as the genocide of the Palestinian people. The two groups say they want to support dockworkers in different countries who are trying to stop ports being used for war.
The organisers argue that seas and ports are not neutral. They also say workers are losing rights while more money and resources go to the arms sector. Their statement does not name any port involved in arms supplies.
