Mallorca: Schools near planned Blocus Mallorca protests in Palma could suspend classes if their safety cannot be assured. The Sindicat Independent, Autònom i Unitari (SIAU) makes that call on 29 October 2026, as shops in the centre of Palma, Mallorca, protect their windows and announce early closures over fears of possible incidents.

The union has sent an urgent request to the Department of Education and Universities and other education authorities. It has also written to the heads of IES Ses Estacions and IES Arxiduc Lluís Salvador. It wants officials to assess the risks to pupils, teachers and other school staff, and to work with the security forces.

SIAU says in-person lessons and non-essential activities should stop only during periods when safety cannot be adequately guaranteed. It also wants clear instructions for schools and families. The union says it is not challenging the right to protest, but warns it will seek legal accountability if a failure to take necessary precautions leads to avoidable harm. The source does not say whether education officials have agreed to its request.
