Palma rape trial opens as prosecutors seek 8 years

A man goes on trial in Palma, Mallorca, on Tuesday, 15 September, accused of raping a woman he met during a night out. Prosecutors are seeking eight years in prison and €25,000 in compensation. The hearing begins at 10.00 at the First Section of the Balearic Islands Provincial Court.

According to the prosecution, the pair went to the defendant’s home after meeting at a party in the early hours of 30 October 2022.

The prosecution says he then locked the woman in a room and raped her despite her repeated requests for him to stop. It says she became pregnant and later needed psychological treatment for trouble sleeping and eating, anxiety attacks and a sense of rejection towards men.
