Palma rental car theft: man arrested after eight vehicles stolen
Spain’s National Police said on 18 August that they had arrested a man in Palma, Mallorca, over alleged rental car thefts from fenced outdoor company lots. The suspect is also accused of swapping number plates to hamper efforts to trace the vehicles and of driving at least one stolen car without a licence.
The investigation began after three complaints from rental firms over eight vehicles taken during break-ins at their premises in June. Seven of the stolen cars have since been recovered, most of them by Palma Local Police, which provided information to the inquiry.
Officers said evidence pointed to at least two people and identified a couple alleged to have entered two of the lots to steal rental vehicles. The arrested man is under investigation for break-ins, vehicle theft, document forgery and an offence against road safety. The inquiry remains open and further arrests have not been ruled out.
