Mallorca: PSIB flags €350m Palma ring road cost
In Palma, Mallorca, the first phase of the planned second ring road is now priced at €350m, up from €110m in 2024, the PSIB says. The Socialist party put the increase at 218% in a statement on Thursday. It accused Consell de Mallorca president Llorenç Galmés of treating public money carelessly.
Socialist councillor Jaume Mateu said there had been no major change to the scheme that could account for the higher figure. The 2024 version already included a tunnel, roundabouts, a boulevard and cycle links, he said.
Mateu also cited €103m which he said Galmés had given to Tirme without need or justification. He called it a pattern of poor management rather than a one-off mistake.
The PSIB also branded Wednesday's presentation of the works "deeply electoralist". The PP brought together Galmés, Balearic government president Marga Prohens and Palma mayor Jaime Martínez for the event.
The party said it will request the project's full technical and financial documentation to establish why the cost has risen so sharply.
