Palma awards 27.8 million euros for roads and drains
Palma, Mallorca: six contracts worth 27.8 million euros put road repairs, drainage work and the clearing of plots and stream sections on the city’s agenda for the next two years. Palma City Council’s governing board approved the awards on 28 October. The council says the contracts will help it maintain streets, paths and public spaces across the municipality.
Roads, paths and drainage
Acciona Mantenimiento de Infraestructuras will receive 7.2 million euros for work in Ponent and Nord. Tecnología de la Construcción y Obras Públicas will carry out similar work in Llevant, Playa de Palma, Pla de Sant Jordi and the centre for a similar amount. Aglomerats Mallorca has a 6.4 million-euro contract for repairs to road surfaces and infrastructure across Palma.
Eulen will receive 2.4 million euros to clear and clean paths, plots and sections of streams. Asfaltomeros has a 3.6 million-euro contract for rainwater infrastructure, while the Imesapi-Viabal joint venture will receive one million euros for work on bridges, crossings and drainage structures.
Police equipment purchase moves forward
The governing board has also agreed to start a separate purchasing process for Palma’s local police, with a proposed budget of almost 396,000 euros. The council expects new officers to join and says existing equipment needs gradual replacement.
The planned purchase includes up to 200 bulletproof vests and 200 handguns, plus 25 body cameras and four electronic control devices. It also covers 14 sets of protective equipment for an intervention unit and targets for the police shooting range.
