Palma robbery: woman wakes in hospital, belongings gone

A woman in Palma, Mallorca, says she woke in hospital after being knocked unconscious and found her belongings had gone. Spain’s National Police have arrested a man and a woman over the alleged violent robbery. The woman identified one of the suspects near Plaça d’Espanya several days later, police said.

She told officers she had been walking near Plaça del Olivar when she saw two people she knew by sight. They allegedly split up, moved behind her and followed her for several metres.

The pair are accused of striking the woman hard on the head, leaving her unconscious on the ground. Her next memory was waking in hospital and discovering her possessions were missing.

Officers stopped the man she named as one of those involved. He denied the allegation but was arrested on suspicion of violent robbery.

Second suspect also held over threats

A patrol found the second suspect in the early hours of Tuesday in Carrer de Manacor, Palma. Police said she was also being sought over another alleged violent robbery and serious threats.

On Monday, she was allegedly caught stealing in a shop. When an employee challenged her, police say she threatened the worker with a pointed screwdriver before the alarm was raised and she ran away.

That afternoon, she was allegedly trying to enter rooms at a hotel in central Palma. Staff asked her to identify herself as a guest, and she is accused of threatening them with a knife. Police arrested her on suspicion of two violent robberies and one count of serious threats.
