Palma, Mallorca: prosecutors now seek five years in prison for a man accused of sexually assaulting a girl who was 14 in a large shop’s toilets. The alleged assault took place in October 2021. At the Provincial Court on Friday, 30 October 2026, the woman gave her account and the defendant said the sexual acts were consensual.

The two met through social media and arranged to meet at Plaza de España in Palma. She told the court she initially refused sex, but that he forced her into the toilets of a nearby shop and made her perform sexual acts. His lawyer said she had not described the encounter as forced in her earlier accounts to police or the court.

The man was about 25 at the time. He acknowledged the acts took place and said he knew she was 14, but denied forcing her. He told the court he was very sorry.

Prosecutors have cut their requested sentence from ten years to five. They cite his mental health, drug use and the 10,000 euros he has paid in civil compensation. Two doctors confirmed a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and long-term drug use, which they said had affected his abilities.

The defence seeks a sentence of one year and six months if he is convicted, arguing that he has acknowledged the acts throughout the case. The prosecution rejects that as a further reason to reduce the sentence. The hearing has ended, but the court has yet to rule.
