Palma stabbing: 19-year-old dies after street dispute

A 19-year-old man has died after a stabbing during a street dispute in Palma, Mallorca. The attack happened in Calle Indalecio Prieto at about 22.57 on Sunday. National Police have arrested a man aged between 19 and 20 on suspicion of homicide.

Witnesses called emergency services after two people became involved in a confrontation in the street. When paramedics arrived, the victim had a penetrating abdominal wound and was in cardiac arrest.

SAMU 061 emergency crews restarted his pulse and took him in a critical condition to the emergency department at Son Espases University Hospital, before he was moved straight to the operating theatre. He died in hospital a few hours later, emergency service sources said.

Police officers found the suspect nearby after witnesses provided a description. He remains in police custody awaiting questioning.

The Homicide Group at the Balearic Islands Police Headquarters is investigating what led to the dispute. Detectives are also looking for the weapon, believed to have been a bladed weapon, and plan to question witnesses and check any security cameras in the area.
