Palma stabbing kills young man as minor is held

A young man has died after a stabbing in Palma, while police have arrested a minor on suspicion of homicide. Emergency calls came in at about 22.50 on Sunday after the victim was found on the ground with an open, bleeding wound to his chest. The attack happened in an alley near Calle Indalecio Prieto, according to the National Police.

Police patrols arrived to find people gathered around the injured man. One member of the public was pressing a T-shirt against the wound. Paramedics treated him at the scene, carried out resuscitation and took him to hospital, where he died hours later.

Witnesses told officers that an argument had turned into a fight in the nearby alley. They said the victim collapsed after the stabbing and the attacker ran away.

Officers searched the area for the suspect and the weapon but found neither. At about 01.00, a patrol spotted a young man matching witnesses’ description in Orson Wells Park. Police said he appeared agitated and was trembling before being arrested.

The National Police’s Homicide Group is taking witness statements and continuing its investigation. Officers later established that the detained suspect, who had no identification documents, was a minor and referred the case to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
