Palma theatre season puts school bullying on stage
More than 20 dancers will take to the stage for a Snow White musical as Palma’s municipal theatres bring school bullying, social-media relationships and Balearic stories into their 2026-2027 season.
Palma City Council unveiled the programme at the Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza on 11 September. Culture councillor Javier Bonet said the aim was to bring together audiences, creators, art forms, languages and generations — not simply fill seats.
Shows for younger audiences
The family programme includes Nubes con bebés for very young children, alongside Sa Rateta 2.0, Ànima del violí — with puppets and live music — and Blancanieves, the Snow White musical with its cast of more than 20 dancers.
Teenagers are the focus of Strawberry Frappuccino and T'escoltam. The productions explore relationships through social networks and difficult experiences affecting young people, including school bullying. Palma’s Municipal Music Band will also give concerts designed for school audiences as part of the Palma Educa initiative.
Balearic premieres and theatre upgrades
Balearic artists and companies will have a prominent place in the season. New productions include Nine Produccions’ Cartes d'amor, Othello, directed by Javier Matesanz from a text by Rafel Gallego and starring Joan Carles Bestard, and Las Reina del Baile’s No és un cabaret sobre la nostra pobresa.
The programme also spans dance, music, magic, circus, puppetry, cinema and contemporary stage work. Palma will support events including ME_MMIX, the Paco de Lucía Festival, PalmaDansa, Fira B!, Un hivern a Mallorca and the Festival de la Paraula.
City figures show audience numbers at municipal venues rose 71 per cent over the past three years. Average occupancy reached 76.4 per cent and takings rose 166 per cent. Palma has repaired the roof and façade at Teatre Municipal Maruja Alfaro-Mar i Terra, renewed its air-conditioning system, waterproofed the Xesc Forteza to prevent leaks and reupholstered many seats.
