Mallorca police arrest second teen over Palma toy-gun raids
National Police have arrested a second teenager over two toy-gun raids in Bons Aires, Palma, early in September. A third teenager is still being sought after the two attacks on a fruit shop and a supermarket. Police say the three suspects travelled on two motorbikes and used imitation guns bought from a toy shop.
The first robbery took place at about 01.20 in a fruit shop. Two hooded, masked teenagers pointed an imitation gun at a worker and shouted for cash from the till. They asked for the code but could not open it, so one took the entire cash drawer before they fled.
At about 03.40, all three suspects targeted a supermarket in the same Palma neighbourhood. Their faces were covered again as they demanded money while brandishing toy guns. Staff stood up to them and forced them out of the shop.
One of those involved called a police station on the night of the previous Sunday and confessed to both robberies, police said. His father had recognised him in a video published by a media outlet and urged him to tell the truth.
He became the first teenager arrested. National Police made the second arrest on Tuesday, 8 September. The Balearic Islands Police Headquarters says the case remains open while officers try to find the third suspect. After reviewing footage, investigators have ruled out anyone else being involved.
