Three watches taken in daylight

Police say the group picked tourists by the value of their watches, then watched and followed them until one of the young men could strike and run.

At about 15.15 on 24 May, a couple were walking near La Llotja and Moll Vell when a young man pinned the tourist’s arm against a wall. He pulled off a watch worth €37,500 and fled along Paseo Marítimo towards Mallorca Cathedral.

On 4 September, at about 13.30, a suspect came up behind a tourist on Ramón Llull street and pushed him to the ground. The tourist’s partner grabbed the attacker by his rucksack and T-shirt and pulled him down too. After a struggle, he escaped with a watch worth around €25,000.

At about 12.30 on 26 September, a tourist was paying at a machine in an underground car park on Paseo Mallorca. Two young men approached, and one took his watch, valued at around €200,000.

Suspect found on the Born

Investigators identified a young man they believe took part in all three robberies. Police say he had no previous record and they did not know where he was until Saturday morning, when they found him on the Born with another young man. Police say the pair were looking for new victims.

The suspect remains in custody while the investigation continues. Police have not ruled out further arrests.
