Mallorca wife escapes cable attack as husband faces trial

In Palma, Mallorca, a woman escapes after her husband allegedly tries to kill her with an electrical cable. Prosecutors seek nine years in prison for the man. The alleged attack happened during an argument on 17 July 2024, according to the prosecution’s account.

The charge sheet says the man shook and shoved his wife, struck her several times in the face with a wooden tray and whipped her across the body with the cable. He then allegedly tried to suffocate her with it. She broke free and fled. The man had previously been convicted of causing bodily harm.

The parties failed to reach an agreement at a preliminary hearing on Wednesday. The Second Chamber of the Provincial Court will hear the case, but no trial date has been set.
