Palma creates 13 jobs for young professionals at City Hall

Thirteen qualified young people began work at Palma City Hall in Palma, Mallorca, on 27 August. They will spend 12 months in technical and support roles across council departments.

Catalina Cabrer, the Balearic employment minister, formally welcomed the new recruits on Thursday. The jobs form part of a scheme run by the Balearic Employment Service, known as SOIB, aimed at helping young people into work.

The programme is open to unemployed people over 18 and under 30 who are registered as jobseekers with SOIB and receive support through the National Youth Guarantee System. Their roles must match their qualifications.

PalmaActiva has received a SOIB grant of €465,294.70 to run the project. The scheme is also co-funded by the Sectoral Conference on Employment and Labour Affairs and the European Union’s FSE+ programme.

The new staff include four legal management specialists, two economic management specialists and two public administration and management specialists. The group also includes a sociologist, a protocol specialist, a communications support worker, a construction technician and a marketing and advertising support specialist.

Cabrer said the scheme was designed to give young talent a real route into the labour market and help them progress in their careers.
