Palma parking staff talks: union disputes council meeting

Palma, Mallorca: Parking staff’s workplace agreement is at the centre of a dispute over whether talks have resumed. On Thursday 29 October, the Siteib union said Palma City Council had not invited employee committee delegates from the Municipal Parking Company of Palma (SMAP) to fresh negotiations. The council says a meeting on the issue took place on Tuesday.

Siteib says the negotiating team was working as usual at the time and had received no invitation. It says it has had no official notice since then that the talks have restarted.

The dispute now extends to who can speak for SMAP staff. The council has questioned Siteib’s role because the union has no seat on the employee committee. Siteib says that does not stop it representing workers or raising their concerns. It is calling for transparency and information for staff about matters affecting their working conditions.
