Mallorca’s capital, Palma: more than €600,000 of work brings bigger playgrounds, new sports areas and street improvements to the Son Ximelis and Son Roca neighbourhoods. Palma City Council said on Thursday, 1 October, that the work is complete. Councillor Belén Soto visited the area with council staff and representatives of the Son Roca residents’ association.

More room to play and exercise

In Son Ximelis park, the children’s play area has grown by 185 square metres. It now has a play castle, low play equipment with learning panels, two accessible spring riders and a chalkboard wall.

The play area in Cap Enderrocat park has gained 100 square metres. Its new equipment includes an accessible play castle, an adapted seesaw and swings with different types of seats. Both parks also have new plants and trees.

Near the neighbourhood centre, the council has installed outdoor exercise equipment and an area for bodyweight training. It has also built three pétanque courts in Son Ximelis square, answering a request from local residents.

Streets, access and lighting

On Cap Enderrocat street, the work covered access, drainage and resurfacing. Some entrances to the neighbourhood centre have also been improved. Streetlights on several roads have been changed to LED lighting, which the council says improves illumination and makes the installations more efficient.

Soto said the completed work responds to requests from residents, with a focus on access, play and sport.
