Mallorca approves €1 million for paths and animal welfare
Mallorca is putting €1 million towards clearing municipal paths and helping councils meet animal welfare law. The island council, the Consell de Mallorca, approved the two grant schemes on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. Every municipality on the island except Palma can apply.
Half the money — €500,000 — is for maintaining paths so people can use them safely. Councils can claim for work on paths in their public paths catalogue or on publicly owned land registered in the council’s name. The work can include clearing scrub and weeds, and pruning or felling trees that make a path difficult to use.
The other €500,000 is for putting the animal welfare law into practice. Both pots will be shared in proportion to the spending each council documents when it applies. For path maintenance, councils must report costs incurred from 1 January 2025 until the application deadline. The island council has not said when that deadline falls.
