Peguera drowning leaves Swiss tourist, 87, critical

An 87-year-old Swiss tourist is in intensive care in a very serious condition after a drowning while swimming off Playa de la Romana in Peguera, Calvià, Mallorca.

The incident happened at about 15.15 on Thursday. Lifeguards pulled the man from the sea and found him in cardiorespiratory arrest, then began resuscitation.

Paramedics from the SAMU 061 emergency service continued the efforts and restored his pulse. An ambulance took him to Policlínica Miramar, where he was admitted to intensive care.

It is not yet known why the tourist got into difficulty while swimming.
