Palma, Mallorca: People on low incomes could face smaller pensions if the PP and Vox make the changes they want, a PSIB politician warns on 15 October. Llorenç Pou, a PSIB lawmaker and its secretary for economy and finance, says the parties want to reshape the pension system and put more weight on private pension plans. He made the claims in an interview with Ona Mediterrània.

Pou says workers who struggle to make ends meet cannot afford to pay into private plans. He also warns that pensions might no longer be guaranteed to keep pace with rising consumer prices. As ways to strengthen the system instead, he suggests raising the retirement age or increasing contributions from higher earners.

His warning extends to sick pay. Pou claims the PP wants companies to stop paying workers for the first three days of sick leave, even where a collective agreement says they should. In that case, he says, workers would bear the loss. He does not point to an approved change.

The PSIB also backs a general strike called by unions for 11 November over the housing shortage. Pou says workers are finding it increasingly hard to secure a home and afford a decent living. He wants the strike to push every political party to make housing a priority.
