Pere Garau campaign tackles incivility

Community platform Flipau amb Pere Garau and the Pere Garau Saludable association launched a social-media campaign in Pere Garau, Palma, Mallorca, on 20 August to improve the area’s urban environment and tackle antisocial behaviour.

The Pere Garau campaign outlines common breaches of civic rules and the consequences of failing to comply with municipal ordinances. The groups are also calling for residents to help make better urban conditions a shared priority.

Call for a wider neighbourhood plan

The organisations say the densely populated neighbourhood needs a joined-up strategy involving several departments of Palma City Council. They have for months advocated a “Plan +” combining more frequent cleaning, additional resources and awareness work adapted to the district’s diversity.

They argue that clean, well-maintained public spaces encourage respect for the surroundings, improve civic behaviour and strengthen residents’ attachment to the neighbourhood.

Demands for cleaning and enforcement

The groups want Emaya to step up monitoring and the Policía Local to impose more penalties under rules covering street cleaning, waste and civic coexistence.

They described dirty pavements, bad smells in some areas and overflowing litter bins as unacceptable, and urged Emaya to respond immediately, proactively and urgently.
