Mallorca: MÉS launches town hall politics school

MÉS per Mallorca has launched a new school to train its representatives for work in Mallorca’s town halls. The party presented the Pere Sampol School in Palma on Saturday, 26 September. Courses will run from September to March for people involved in the party’s political project.

Party coordinator Lluís Apesteguia introduced the scheme with executive committee member Maria Margalida Perelló, who designed its content. The school is named after Pere Sampol, whom MÉS says guided the party, set an example for generations and showed that change was possible.

Preparing for town hall work

The first part focuses on local politics. Participants will look at how to prepare a local election strategy, what to know before entering a town hall and how to put MÉS values into practice in government and opposition.

The programme will also bring together experiences from different municipalities, examining decisions that worked and those that need improvement.

Tourism and social cohesion

Later sessions will cover ideas of self-rule and transforming local politics, alongside debates about Mallorca’s future. They include tourist overcrowding and the need to change the economic model.

Another session will deal with anti-racism, migration and social cohesion, aiming to help participants defend rights and respond to hate speech. Local groups will be able to request tailored training, while further sessions on how town halls work are planned after the elections for groups that need them.
