Petra affordable homes: 19 flats favour long-term locals

Petra, Mallorca, is set to get 19 affordable rental homes, with preference for people who can show they have lived in the town for at least 18 years. Marga Prohens presented the plan on Wednesday for the Camí des Cos. It will be the first rental development in Petra by the Instituto Balear de la Vivienda (Ibavi), and the first new public housing scheme launched there for more than 20 years.

Homes planned at Camí des Cos

The development will have ten one-bedroom homes, ranging from 55.92 to 56.67 square metres. A further nine will have two bedrooms and measure between 71.97 and 74.22 square metres.

Two of the 19 homes will be adapted for people with disabilities. The estimated budget is about €3.5 million, excluding taxes.

Fast-track route for the project

The scheme is using the Balearic Government's expedited process for public housing projects. Its designation as an investment of regional interest is intended to shorten and simplify the administrative process for Ibavi developments.

The Balearic Government has provided the plot to Ibavi free of charge. Across the islands, it is currently advancing more than 1,500 public homes through new Ibavi developments.
