Mallorca: Spain keeps 20-cent petrol and diesel tax relief
On Mallorca, Spain, a 20-cent tax break on petrol and diesel continues in October: the government extends it from Thursday, 1 October, rather than letting it expire on Wednesday, 30 September. Spain’s Official State Gazette published the decree on Wednesday as the government responds to price rises linked to the war in Iran.
The fuel tax break falls later in the year
The relief drops to 13 cents in November and 6 cents in December, then ends on 31 December. If prices rise by more than 15%, an automatic safeguard restores the 20-cent break in November or December.
Gas bills get a separate limit
A limit on Spain’s regulated natural gas tariff takes effect on Wednesday, 30 September. Without it, the 1 October tariff review would raise bills for households and small businesses on that tariff by more than 45%. The government says the limit holds the increase to around 15%.
The decree also caps the price of a butane cylinder at 19.55 euros until 30 June 2027. The current maximum is 18.84 euros.
