Mallorca pharmacy faculty gets green light at UIB
Mallorca’s Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) has been cleared to create its own Faculty of Pharmacy. The Balearic Government’s Consell de Govern approved the move in Palma on Friday, deputy government spokeswoman Antònia Maria Estarellas said after the meeting. It comes as the university’s pharmacy degree, launched in the 2024-2025 academic year, continues to grow.
Students will begin the course’s third year in 2026-2027, with Estarellas describing demand as high. The Balearic Government has provided more than €6.5 million for the degree between 2024 and 2029, while UIB’s Faculty of Sciences handled its early rollout.
Pharmacy is a regulated health degree combining scientific, clinical and patient-care teaching. It includes placements in community and hospital pharmacies, industry, public health and laboratories.
The new faculty will coordinate teaching, support clinical placements and make specific accreditations easier. It is also intended to strengthen UIB’s links with the pharmaceutical and health sectors, following the model used by most Spanish universities with pharmacy courses.
