Mallorca phone snatch: clothes swap fails to fool police
Two minors snatch a woman’s phone on Carretera del Arenal in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, early on Monday, then swap clothes as they flee. A National Police patrol sees the attack and arrests both shortly afterwards, according to the force’s Balearic Islands headquarters.
The officers had already noticed the pair in the tourist area. They watched them approach another woman, quicken their pace and make unusual gestures. The pair then turned towards three women walking along the road, grabbed one from behind and took her phone.
The two fled through nearby streets and alleys. Officers found one hiding in an alley, where he kicked and punched them as they arrested him. The other jumped a wall into a residential complex but was also arrested.
Police accuse both minors of robbery with violence and one of assaulting an officer. They found the phone in a plant pot and returned it to its owner, who filed a complaint.
