At Palma airport on Mallorca, an X-ray scan of a checked suitcase reveals around 20 mobile phones and four luxury watches. The Civil Guard arrests the suitcase’s owner, a 32-year-old man, weeks later on Wednesday after finding that one of the phones was reported stolen.

The man could not show that the phones and watches belonged to him or explain where they came from, the Civil Guard says. Officers seized the items, valued at around €20,000, and held them for checks. A further examination of the phones found one listed as stolen; the others remain only suspected of being stolen.

After completing their investigation paperwork, officers handed the man over to the judicial authorities in Palma.
