Mallorca physicist wins US award for peer reviews
Mallorca physicist Eleanor Hamilton wins a US award for checking research papers before publication: work the University of the Balearic Islands says helps protect the quality of published science. The American Physical Society has given her its Reviewer Excellence Award 2026, the university said in news reported from Palma, Mallorca, on 20 October.
Hamilton is among 51 scientists from 17 countries recognised this year for reviewing papers for the society’s journals. She completed her doctorate at Cardiff University in 2020, then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich before joining the University of the Balearic Islands in 2023. She now develops precise models of gravitational waves. Two of her models are used by the LIGO-Vigo-Kagra collaboration to analyse data.
