The Balearic Islands’ small and medium-sized business association Pimeb is set to take its first seat on Spain’s Economic and Social Council (CES), where employers and unions are represented. Catalonia’s Pimec is also due to join. Employer association sources confirmed the move to Europa Press on 19 October 2026, after La Vanguardia reported it.

Employer group CEOE-Cepyme must give up two seats against its wishes to make room for the associations. Pimec has proposed Ferran Bel, who already represents it in Madrid, for its seat. The report does not name a representative for Pimeb.

A decree issued in May 2024 opened the council to the most representative employer organisations from Spain’s autonomous communities. In late 2025, Pimec sent the government a letter setting out the legal case for its admission. The government is now renewing council places whose holders’ terms have expired. The new seats are not official yet: they await appointments by the Ministry of Labour.
