Piñero marks 20 years in Samaná with 1,000-plus jobs

Piñero says its two-decade presence in Samaná, Dominican Republic, now provides more than 1,000 direct jobs. At a Wednesday celebration in Cayo Levantado, Global CEO Encarna Piñero paid tribute to her father, Pablo Piñero, whose investment in the province began in 2006.

She called Samaná a “choice of the heart” and described her father as a visionary who saw more than the area’s beauty. He believed the destination had what it took to become an international reference point, she said.

Local suppliers and shared projects

Piñero said 90% of the group’s suppliers come from the local area. She said the figure represented opportunities, shared knowledge and a future for the province.

She named Bahia Principe Escape Samana, Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo and Cayo Levantado Resort among the projects linking the group to the Dominican Republic. Soltour has also brought thousands of Spanish and Portuguese travellers to the country over the years, she said.

Looking ahead after 20 years

Piñero said Fundación Eco-Bahía had rescued around 4,000 sea turtle hatchlings in Samaná and elsewhere in the country. The group is now aiming for a more connected business ecosystem, she added.

Samaná senator Pedro Catrain said Pablo Piñero had believed in the province and that his vision had helped drive its development over the past 20 years. Governor Teodora Mullix, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and 100 travel agencies from Spain and Portugal also attended the event.
