Ibiza pirate taxi gets €15,000 fine for overcrowding

Eivissa Local Police have fined the driver of an unlicensed pirate taxi €15,000 after stopping an overcrowded car in Eivissa, Ibiza, on 22 September. The vehicle was carrying cruise passengers from the port to a hotel in Playa d'en Bossa for €50 per trip. Officers found it in the Juan Carlos I area and had it towed to the municipal depot.

The Ibiza Town Council said the car was carrying more people than permitted. Police also found that it was already subject to a sealing order.

The €15,000 penalty was issued under the transport law. The driver also faces sanctions under traffic rules for carrying too many occupants.
