Ibiza pirate taxi stopped after €20-per-passenger fares
A suspected pirate taxi — an unlicensed vehicle carrying paying passengers — has been impounded in Eivissa on Ibiza after police said it charged €20 per passenger for each journey. The driver could face a penalty of up to €15,000.
Eivissa Local Police stopped the car in the early hours of 25 September on Avenida Pere Matutes Noguera. Officers had seen it repeatedly stopping and parking at different points along the road, and became suspicious after spotting a passenger in the rear seats.
The driver told officers that several people were being transported. Passengers said they had each paid €20 for the trip, while one said they used the driver's services regularly.
Police sent the vehicle to the municipal depot and opened sanction proceedings for unauthorised work in the taxi sector. Officers also recorded concerns over the authenticity of the driving licence presented by the driver and began checks.
