Àlex Pitaluga is entering the PSOE primary to become the party’s candidate for president of the Consell d’Eivissa, Ibiza’s island council, in the 2027 election. The Socialist Federation of Ibiza said on 5 September that the Parliament member will seek the nomination.

Pitaluga says he is acting because he will not accept the island’s current direction. He highlighted the struggle to find a home, along with pressure on land and overcrowding.

“I am worried that our children have to leave Ibiza because they cannot find a home,” he said. He also called for a change in the island’s policies.

Pitaluga wants Ibiza to rethink its tourism and growth model. Tourism, he said, should work for local people rather than at their expense.

He said tourist activity should help deliver better public services, education and healthcare, while making housing easier to access. Pitaluga, a member of the Parliament since 2023 and the federation’s education secretary, said the election could offer a chance to change course.
