Sant Josep, Ibiza: 1986 planning rules are back

Sant Josep, Ibiza, is back under planning rules from 1986: its provisional rules have expired, removing housing and holiday-let safeguards, according to local Socialists. On 29 September, the Socialist group on the municipal council criticised the automatic return to the old rules. Its deputy spokesman, Vicent Roselló, says the expired rules barred holiday rentals in blocks of flats and set aside land for social housing.

Roselló says the expiry also removes land reserved for industrial use around the airport and plots designated for essential public facilities. He accuses the council leadership of carelessness and improvisation.

The council has floated a plan to act in 224 planning zones, but Roselló says that is not enough. The Socialist group is demanding that the mayor take responsibility.
