Playa de Palma: police seize 18 speakers in beach clampdown

Palma Local Police seized 18 speakers and filed 24 reports at Playa de Palma during a three-day crackdown on excessive noise, rubbish and the private takeover of beach space. The operation ran from 11 to 13 September on Mallorca’s beachfront. Police said it was aimed at curbing antisocial behaviour and protecting shared use of the seafront.

Officers targeted powerful speakers and music systems playing at excessive volume in bathing areas. They identified those responsible, opened the relevant administrative cases and removed the equipment.

Groups of tourists were also told to take down gazebo-style tents put up on the sand to mark out areas for exclusive use. Several large inflatable water toys had to be removed from the sea because police said their size made them an obstacle and a safety risk for other bathers.

The operation also dismantled structures used as makeshift bars for botellón — beach gatherings involving the preparation and drinking of alcohol. Police said the gatherings left serious piles of rubbish, including many glass bottles stacked beside litter bins, creating a risk of cuts and injuries for people using the sand.
