Podemos joins Balearic election pact after failed talks

Mallorca’s MÉS per Mallorca now shares a Balearic election list with Podemos: Lucía Muñoz takes third place after her party struck a deal to join Ara Més-Front Ampli for the 29 November general election. Muñoz, Podemos’s Balearic coordinator, announced the agreement on X on Sunday, 25 October. Three days earlier, Podemos had named her as its own candidate for the Congress of Deputies after talks with the alliance failed the previous week.

Muñoz will stand as an independent. Carme Gomila, the Ara Més coordinator, heads the list. Second place will go to a candidate from either Esquerra Unida or Sumar, but the alliance has not yet chosen who. Alongside MÉS per Mallorca, the coalition includes Més per Menorca, Ara Eivissa, Recortes Cero and Progreso en Verde.

People familiar with the talks told Europa Press that negotiations continued after the first breakdown. The deal comes just before Monday’s deadline to submit candidate lists to the electoral authority. Ara Més says it is also part of a wider effort to cooperate with Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya rather than compete at the election.
