Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands are set to see separate Podemos election lists after talks on a left-wing alliance failed. Party spokesman Pablo Fernández announced the plan in Madrid on Monday, 19 October. He also ruled out putting Podemos members on Ara Més lists as independents.

Fernández said an agreement for the Balearics and Aragón was taking shape just an hour before the deadline to register alliances, but blamed Frente Amplio’s leadership for blocking it. Podemos now plans to focus on its campaign. Candidate lists must be submitted on the 26th.

There is an exception for Senate candidacies in Menorca and Eivissa, where Podemos will stand alongside the Socialists and other parties. Fernández said the arrangement reflects the particular circumstances of those islands and an agreement carried over from earlier parliamentary terms. He said Podemos would not make such a pact with the Socialists elsewhere.
