Mallorca: Podemos drops its own list for election pact
Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, gets a single election list from parties to the left of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE): Podemos drops its own bid and puts councillor Lucía Muñoz in third place on the Ara Més-Frente Amplio ticket. She will stand as an independent. The parties reached the deal on Sunday, and Podemos spokesman Pablo Fernández confirmed it on Monday, 26 October.
The agreement means Podemos will not run a separate list anywhere in the Balearic Islands. Fernández said in Madrid that he expects no further election deals before the deadline for registering lists expires at midnight on Monday.
Podemos still plans to run its own lists for Spain’s lower house of parliament in most constituencies. It will join coalition lists in the Canary Islands and Valencia, while its candidates in Catalonia will stand on the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) list. Under those agreements, Podemos will not field its own Senate candidates in any of those regions or the Balearic Islands.
