Maó mayoral race: PSOE backs Pons for 2027
Héctor Pons will seek another term as mayor of Maó, Menorca, after the PSOE Maó assembly confirmed him as its candidate for the 2027 municipal election on Thursday. Pons said the job of mayor demands a “24-hour commitment”. He pointed to projects once promised four years ago that are now complete.
Those include Maó’s new municipal swimming pool and athletics track, the purchase of Catisa for social housing, a rebuilt skatepark and a new National Police station. Pons also listed works in Anunciavay Street and along the seafront promenade.
Pons promises to press on
The candidate said he wants to keep improving public facilities and services, create more space for culture and make Maó more accessible and sustainable. He also said the city should remain committed to the Biosphere Reserve.
Pons said he would again put himself before the people of Maó, with the aim of tackling the city’s remaining challenges and leaving behind a modern, welcoming and accessible place for future generations.
