Mallorca: four Porto Cristo CCTV cameras fall short, PP says

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Four CCTV cameras are planned for Porto Cristo, Mallorca, to target illegal rubbish dumping. Manacor’s People’s Party says that falls short of a wider council agreement. On 1 October, it called on mayor Miquel Oliver to carry out the plan approved unanimously a year and a half ago.

That agreement covered surveillance cameras at trouble spots across the municipality, not just cameras to monitor dumped waste in Porto Cristo. Local party leader Mateu Fullana welcomed action against illegal dumping but said the council had taken too long to act and was doing too little.

Fullana wants the council and Local Police to identify other suitable sites while meeting all legal requirements. He says cameras could help prevent crime and support police work. The party has asked Oliver to explain how his administration intends to carry out the full agreement.
