Mallorca crash: suspect remanded after woman dies

A 23-year-old woman died after a car left the Ma-4020 in Porto Cristo, Manacor, Mallorca, overturned and struck a tree. A judge has ordered the suspected driver to be held in custody without bail. The crash happened at about 23.45 on Sunday; the man was arrested on Tuesday after leaving hospital.

The car ran off the left side of the road at kilometre seven. The young woman was trapped inside and died at the scene. A 41-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries, while another passenger, aged 35, was slightly hurt, according to SAMU 061.

The Guardia Civil took the suspect to the Manacor courts on Tuesday. He is being investigated on suspicion of causing death by negligence, causing injuries and an offence against road safety, the Balearic Islands High Court said.
