In Marratxí, Mallorca, pottery could help draw visitors beyond the holiday season: tourism chief Guillem Ginard raised the town’s clay and ceramics heritage in talks with its municipal government on Wednesday, 7 October. The meeting gave the council a chance to share its concerns, needs and proposals for tourism.

The Council of Mallorca says Marratxí’s pottery tradition is bound up with the town’s history, trades and way of life. Ginard sees it as a way for visitors to discover a side of Mallorca that is not limited to the holiday season.

The talks also covered how tourism could make more of Marratxí’s heritage while remaining compatible with residents’ quality of life. Mayor Jaume Llompart said institutions needed to listen to one another and that the town’s distinctive character deserved greater recognition in tourism. No specific new visitor offering was announced.
